Did you know that you run 27% slower on a treadmill then you do outside? That is a huge number. The reason being that a stationary background makes you think you’re moving faster than you actually are. A number of studies show that in general outdoor running tends to promote a more intense exercise and burns about 5% more calories than treadmills do due to wind resistance and no assistance from a treadmill belt.
